Brand
Autel Robotics was founded in Shenzhen in 2014 and sold its first drone, the X-Star, in 2015. It began inside Autel Intelligent Technology and was spun off in 2020. The folding EVO followed in 2018, then the EVO II family in 2020, the Lite and Nano consumer drones in 2021 and the EVO Max enterprise line in 2023. US police and public agencies bought its drones widely, and that drew Washington's attention. Commerce put Autel on its Entity List in 2024, and in December 2025 the FCC added foreign-made drones, Autel's included, to its Covered List. That blocks new models, but the FCC says drones it already authorized can still be sold, used and repaired, and a waiver keeps firmware updates coming through at least January 2029.
