Autel unveiled the EVO Max 4T at CES in January 2023, and DroneDJ called it a close competitor to DJI's M30T. It's built for public safety and inspection crews. The gimbal carries four sensors, a 10x optical zoom camera, a 50 MP wide camera, a 640 x 512 thermal camera and a laser rangefinder that reads distances out to 1,200 m. Autel says it was the first drone of its kind to pair vision sensors with millimeter-wave radar for spotting obstacles, down to objects half an inch across. It's rated for 42 minutes and, in the US, 15 km of SkyLink 3.0 range. A V2 later moved to the Fusion 4T V2 gimbal. Used ones are fleet hardware, so the controller, batteries and firmware matter as much as the airframe.

The EVO Max is on the FAA's Remote ID Declaration of Compliance list, with Autel's latest EVO Max declaration accepted in 2026. At 1,645 g it must be registered with the FAA however you fly it, and your registration lists its Remote ID serial number.
Account lock
Autel doesn't document an account lock for the EVO Max. It flies from the Autel Enterprise app on the Smart Controller V3, so ask the seller to sign out of their account there and clear any saved missions before it ships.
Controller
It flies from the Autel Smart Controller V3, which has a 7.9-inch, 2,000-nit screen and runs the app itself. Autel's FAQ says the controller and aircraft must be on the same firmware package to pair, so buy them together.
App and firmware
Autel Enterprise, on the Smart Controller V3. Autel ships aircraft and controller firmware as separate packages, and its FAQ shows how to load them from an SD card or USB drive when an update won't run in the app.
Should come with it
The Smart Controller V3
Spare batteries (ABX40 on the original, ABX41 on later units)
The battery charger
Add-ons like the RTK module or the speaker and spotlight
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
Autel's own FAQ covers the usual problems. The controller and aircraft won't pair if their firmware comes from different packages, and a battery that isn't fully clicked in is a known installation risk. A "Maximum Motor Speed Reached" warning in strong wind is normal, not a fault.
01Controller: Check the Smart Controller V3 is in the photos. It's the controller the drone flies from, and the pair should come from the same kit.
02Sensors: Ask for a short clip from the zoom, wide and thermal cameras and a rangefinder reading. Each should work, with a clean thermal image.
03Batteries: Ask how many batteries come with it and look at each one from the side in the photos. They should sit flat and click fully into the drone.
04Lenses: Zoom in on the gimbal's camera windows in the photos. The glass should be clean and unscratched.
05Crash history: Ask if it's ever crashed, and check the arms, props and shell in the photos. You want no cracks and no mismatched replacement parts.
06Registration: Plan to register it with the FAA before the first flight. Its built-in Remote ID serial goes on your registration.
07Firmware: On arrival, update the aircraft and controller to the same firmware package. They should pair and show no warnings at startup.
We'd buy the open box V2 Rugged Bundle with an RTK module at $4,560 delivered, about $1,140 under new, once the seller confirms the Smart Controller V3 is in the box. There are at least 11 listed and no real used market, since nearly every one is new V2 stock from Autel's dealers at $5,699 with free shipping, which is why the band is $5,675–5,700. It has built-in Remote ID, and at 1,645 g it must be registered with the FAA however you fly it. Autel documents no account lock, but ask the seller to sign out of Autel Enterprise on the controller and clear any saved missions, and buy the drone and controller together, since they have to be on the same firmware package to pair. Skip the $9,299 4T XE kit, about 1.6 times the median, for an RTK module the $4,560 kit also titles.
