Yuneec · Compact travel drone · Launched August 2018
Yuneec released the Mantis Q in August 2018 as a folding travel drone with a party trick: you could tell it to take off, land or snap a photo, and it listened. It also took a selfie when it spotted a smile. Folded it measures 168 by 96 by 58 mm and weighs under 500 g, and Yuneec rated it at 33 minutes in the air. The camera is the catch. It stabilizes electronically, only up to 1080p, with no mechanical gimbal, so 4K footage shakes. A year later Yuneec added a gimbal in the Mantis G. Buy a Mantis Q for the novelty and the long flights, not for the footage.
Before you fly
Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
The camera has no mechanical gimbal, so 4K video isn't stabilized at all; that's a design limit, not a fault. Yuneec now treats it as a legacy product with third-party support in the US.
New to used drones? How to check a used drone covers batteries, gimbals and crash damage, and Remote ID and registration explains what the FAA expects once it’s yours.
Buying guide
We'd buy the open-box Mantis Q titled excellent condition at $309 delivered, under the $402 median of the six for sale. With only six listed, the $310–725 band is a rough guide, and four of the six show only the retail box, so ask for photos of the drone, the remote and the battery before you pay. The Mantis Q isn't on the FAA's Remote ID list, so you'd fly it with a broadcast module or at a FRIA, and at over 250 g it must be registered with the FAA. Yuneec now treats it as a legacy product with third-party support in the US, so check that Yuneec Pilot installs on your phone, and know the camera has no gimbal, so 4K video isn't stabilized at all. Skip the $800 and $1,452 asks, about two and 3.6 times the median.
