The Mini 4 Pro came out in September 2023 and kept DJI's small-drone formula, a folding drone that weighs under 249 g with its standard battery. What changed from the Mini 3 Pro was sensing and range. It added obstacle sensing in every direction and DJI's O4 video link, rated to 20 km under FCC rules. The camera is an improved 1/1.3-inch, 48 MP unit that now shoots 4K at up to 100 fps, and the gimbal turns 90 degrees for vertical video. Weight is the thing to watch on a used one. Fit the larger Battery Plus for 45 minutes in the air and DJI says it goes over 249 g, which changes what the FAA expects of you.
Before you fly
Takeoff weight: 249 g, under the 250 g line
Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
DJI rates each battery for 200 cycles and says not to keep flying it after that. The other trap is weight, since the Battery Plus puts it over 249 g, and DJI says not to fly a propeller guard with that battery.
New to used drones? How to check a used drone covers batteries, gimbals and crash damage, and Remote ID and registration explains what the FAA expects once it’s yours.
Buying guide
We'd buy the kit with the RC 2 screen controller, three batteries, a charging hub, a case and the original box at $665 delivered, under the $748 median of the $625 to $875 band. There are at least 128 for sale, used kits ask about $560 to $850 delivered, and new ones from dealers ask a median of about $880. Flown purely for fun on the standard battery it's under 250 g and needs no FAA registration or Remote ID, but the Battery Plus puts it over 249 g, and then it must be registered and broadcasting its built-in Remote ID. Ask the seller to remove it from their DJI account in DJI Fly before it ships, check that the controller is an RC-N2, RC 2, RC-N3 or RC Pro 2, and ask for battery cycle counts and side photos showing the packs sit flat. Skip the RC 2 listing whose stock photo another seller also uses, and the $1,850 bundle at about 2.5 times the median.
