Skydio · Camera drone · October 2019 to January 2022
When the Skydio 2 arrived in October 2019, nothing else could follow you through a forest by itself. Six fisheye navigation cameras built a 3D map of everything around it, and an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 did the thinking, in a far smaller drone than the R1. Reviewers praised the obstacle avoidance and were cooler on the camera, a small 1/2.3-inch sensor, and on the 3.5 km range. Skydio stopped selling it in January 2022 when the 2+ took over. The good news for owners is that the newer 2+ battery and Beacon both fit, so a Skydio 2 can get most of the upgrade for less.

Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
Skydio doesn't publish a known-fault list. Batteries and propellers are the wear parts, and Skydio still sells both. Remove the red gimbal clip before charging or flying.
New to used drones? How to check a used drone covers batteries, gimbals and crash damage, and Remote ID and registration explains what the FAA expects once it’s yours.
Buying guide
We'd buy the Skydio 2 kit with the controller, three batteries, a dual charger and a hard case at $871 delivered, low in the $825–1,125 band most complete drones ask. There are at least 17 for sale, nearly all from US sellers, and a refurbisher's bundle titled tested asks $1,000 if you'd rather pay more for a seller's test. The Skydio 2 is on the FAA's Remote ID list, but most were built before September 2022 and need Skydio's software update (21.1 or later) plus a printed label to broadcast, and at 775 g it must be registered with the FAA. Skydio doesn't document an owner lock, so ask for the WiFi password if the seller changed it from the battery-tray sticker, along with photos of the batteries and a short video of the gimbal leveling at power-on. Skip the zero-feedback auction and the sealed Cinema kit at $1,900, about twice the median, shown with a stock photo.
$724.95delivered
The lowest price on a Skydio 2, $725 with free shipping, but it's the aircraft alone from a US refurbisher, titled with a minor scuff. It flies from your phone, so you'd still need at least one battery and the charger, and a controller or Beacon if you want the full range.
Skydio 2 Drone SDRC2V1 Black – Replacement Aircraft Only - Minor Scuff
$871.45est. delivered
Three batteries, the controller, a dual charger and a hard case at $871 delivered, low in the band. It isn't titled tested, so ask for a short video of the gimbal leveling at power-on.
Skydio 2 Drone Kit - 3 Batteries, Controller, Dual Charger, Hard Case
$999.95delivered
Titled tested by a US refurbisher that lists a lot of Skydio gear, with the controller and two batteries, and the photo shows it all in the case. It's the one for paying $1,000 to skip chasing a seller for test videos.
